Someone's math is off...

Picked up the renewal on the pup's viagra and noticed that the slip says it has 20 day's worth of meds. Problem is there are 5 pills, she gets 1/4 pill twice a day - a.k.a. 1/2 a pill a day. In my calculator that's 10 days, not 20.

::sigh::

Is this lack of skills human error, computer glitch, or a little of both? And does it explain the economic problems we're seeing today?

Viagra Still Working

Yep, the combo of steroid and Viagra has the pup about 88% back to normal (well, normal for her ;-) ).

We're going to stick with this combo for a month and then retest, but I think we've found the solution. Expensive, yes, but the pup is worth it!

Yet Another Bunny has Moved In

This time the bunny made his or her home under the big almost-but-not-really bay window in the front of the house. This is the best selection a bunny has made so far - safe from the pup, out of the range of the landscapers, but still warm and protected.

This one is a tiny little thing. I've seen him/her a few times now, but just for a second before he/she dashes back to safety. I've even caught it on the webcam, but if you aren't looking for it you'd totally miss it!

Whooohooo! Not only is the pup healthy, but his people did call the PD last night looking for him, they're going to pick him up this AM!

I have to admit being just a little sad, I had totally fallen in love and was ready to give him a home. But I'm just sooo glad he found his people!

More animal drama...reading the dogwalker's report last night I found out she'd spied a loose dog in the neighborhood. She couldn't get it to come to her, so she knocked on a few doors in the area but no one answered. Finally she had to leave, but she felt sure it would stay put since the whole time it hung around this one house.

Being me, I had to take a quick look around to reassure myself that the pup was ok.

I only got a block from house before I saw him running toward the busy road nearby.

Long story short, the pup didn't have a collar or tags, so off we went to the vet who checked for a chip - none found. The pup stayed with the vet last night and is being checked out this morning.

In the meantime I have called the PD (no missing dog reported) and animal control (who checking to see if there are any missing dog reports). I check various online resources, no dog matching this one is listed.

Can it be that someone abandoned this cute little thing? Or have the owners just not contacted anyone yet?

More to come I'm sure. But I can tell you this, Bailey may not like the idea of a sibling, but she may get one...

Revenge of the Bunny

Well, whatever you call it, I spent the morning trying to figure out a way to protect another bunny nest while allowing Mrs. Thumper to get in/out when needed. No easy task, especially in the spot this one moved into.

The warning signs started much like last round. Over the past week I'd seen signs that something was dining in the back yard: nibble marks, scratched ground, "droppings," and Bailey tracking a scent when she'd go out.

Then Friday night around midnight I went to let the pup out and was shocked to see a rather large cottontail sitting smack in the middle of the yard. I froze. Bailey froze. The rabbit froze.

In an instant the spell broke; the bunny took off with Bailey in close pursuit. All I could do was hope the bunny was fast.

It was.

The next morning I took a good look at the yard before opening the door to let Bailey out. No sign of any wildlife, so I let her out. She raced around the yard looking for a fresh scent, didn't find one, and settled in to "do her business."

While I waited for that process to complete, I walked to the other end of the yard. I got about 3 feel from the air conditioning unit when there was a brown blur. Yep, a bunny, but smaller than the last one. This time the challenge was in Bailey's favor as she was closer to the escape point (the gate) than the bunny. Problem was, she was in mid-, ummm, business, which gave the bunny just enough time to slip out.

I left a note for the dogwalker so she wouldn't be too shocked to see a bunny in the yard during her visits, but she didn't have an encounter. When I let Bailey out last night (several times), no sign of the bunny. This morning I looked around again, just to be on the safe side. I even walked down where the bunny surprised me the previous morning - no bunny sighting. So I let Bailey out to do her thing while I looked around to see if I could find any sign of late night visitors. Then I noticed some fresh dug dirt. Then I saw this big, brown eye. Shit. Bunny, in the nest, not moving - dog five feet away and closing in.

I was able to divert Bailey into the house, dug out the fence from last time, and waited for the dogwalker so I could give her the update.

Here we go again folks...

Yes, I'm still here. Had been working 2 full-time jobs and a couple of side gigs, all at the same time (huh, shouldn't I have money in the bank after all that? I don't.) left me without anything to say, and no time not to say it.

Or something like that.

I wrapped up all that and have just started a new gig. They set me up with a fairly new PC, a dual monitor set up (whoohoo!), and they got me most of the software I asked for. Then they tossed a Thinkpad my way too. This may work... ;-)

Bunny Watch 2006 - Update

This afternoon our dog walker and I went for our semi-regular peek at the bunnies. We gave Bailey a treat, climbed over the fence, put on our gloves, went over to the nest, got down on our knees, peeled back the top of the nest, took off the inner covering and found...an empty nest!

It took a second or two for that to register in our brains. Empty. No bunnies. Not one.

As all kinds of horrid options flew through my head I looked six inches to my right. There sat a tiny little bunny. Just sitting there. At first I was afraid of the worst, but then I saw it take a tiny bunny breath. Slowly I reached over and gently stroked it, expecting it to hop away, but it stayed put, turning its head to twitch its nose at me. Too cute!!

A little careful looking around and we found the other two. Turns out there are two with the white line on top of their heads, one without; and the two with the line stick together. They are totally fearless, hopping right to us and toward Bailey while she freaked out on the other side of the fence. One started heading right for her - so I put my gloved hand down as a barrier and the bunny hopped over to nibble on the glove!

They are too cute! Hopping around the garden, nibbling on grass and plants, basking in the sun, not a care in the world!

I took some pics, if any of them are any good I'll post here later...

Bunny Update

We took another look at the bunnies today and things are going well. They already have real bunny fur and are starting to look more like a bunny should. They must have thought we were mom bringing dinner because they got all active when we opened the nest, but they settled down pretty quick after we closed things up again. It looks like the next hurdle will be keeping Bailey from exploding when they start hopping around the yard! ;-)

After talking to several wild bunny experts, I went ahead and took a peek into the nest. I didn't go all the way in because after removing the top layer it was clear that the babies are moving around - so they must be ok. I'm going to leave some spinach leaves out tonight to see if mom wants a snack. It looks like she did take a couple of bites out of the carrots I left last night.

Here's a picture of Bailey in the spot she's pretty much stayed in since I put the fencing up...

She freaks out a bit every time I go near the nest - but other than that she just sits there, watching and wishing for another shot.

Bailey vs Bunnies - Day 2
Well the the saga continues...I put floss over the nest like the sites say, and today
it's not only moved, it's gone. So I don't really know if the mom came back
or if the wind or something else took it.

Today I took the caging that I used when Bailey was a pup and it reaches across
the yard (first time I'm so happy the yard is small!) so now at least Bailey
can use half the yard. Based on her reactions from sniffing the air, I think something is still in
the nest, the question is - in what state.

Tonight I put some yarn and floss over the nest in another attempt to find out if mom is taking care of the babies. Of course, now the wind has picked up. Figures. So I also put a baby carrot out there too. Somehow I just have to find out for sure if there's any hope for them. And yes, I don't want to have to deal with alternative...
